Final word on servicewomen's pay while in combat conditions

Mea culpa for incidentally misinforming you by saying that our servicewomen do not receive "combat pay" while actually IN combat situations because they are not allowed to BE in combat.

Here's the gospel according to WREI's Lory Manning.

ALL servicemembers, male and female alike, who serve in Iraq and Afghanistan or other military conflict zone receive "hazard pay"; there's no such thing as "combat pay". Other such special pay is for special duty such as flight duty or sea duty. No one receives additional pay for participating in combat activities.

Women are prohibited from being "assigned" to ground combat units per se, but can be and are "attached" to such units upon being ordered to by the local ground commander. They can be attached to any unit anywhere on commanders' orders. This is one of the games that's played according to Ms Manning.

No military personnel receives extra pay for being put in harm's way.

Our friend Britt of the new Jacksonville FL ERAnow.us organization brought this up.
You are all invited to that site, especially if you live in or near Jacksonville--pitch in with them!
